I'm Sailing Away...

Anyone else have that Styx song in their head now? I'm on the plane now (hooray free wifi!) and will be embarking on a cruise tomorrow!
I will be sans internet, phone, and all other worldly communication devices until New Years Eve. I hope all my newfound bloggy friends had the best Christmas and y'all are enjoying your last (or first) week of the holiday break! I'll leave you with this little goodie....

I look forward to being reunited in a week!

My Gift to You...Freebie!

We're beginning addition in January and I thought I'd whip up this little 28 page freebie and share it with you! In my class of 20 I have 13 boys (I know, right?) so I went ahead and pirate-d this work station out. It has addition story mats, addition problem and answer cards, I Can charts, and student recording sheets.  Before you download, however, there are a couple rules...no cheating!

1. Leave a comment so I know someone is out there listening reading!
2. Follow my blog! Promise you won't regret it :)
3. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Last Minute Christmas Gift Idea!

Still need a simple holiday gift? Check out this adorable little snowman made from a package of microwave popcorn!
(Don't judge my horrible photography skills!)

This homemade gift is easy peasy to make: just wrap a package of microwaveable popcorn in white paper, tie on a fleece hat and cut the edges, and draw a cute little face and a corn cob nose! Voila, simple and cheap!

I've included the cutesy little poem I made to go along with Little Popper the popcorn snowman.

Leave some blog love if you make this. I'd love to see how yours turned out!

*While I'd love to take credit for this super cute gift idea, its not my original! The printable gift tag is however.

Talk Nerdy With Me!

I love love love using websites, online games, powerpoint presentations (sadly, no SmartBoard for me!) in my class. I made a list of my absolute favorite FREE websites and I hope you are able to use them in your class as well.  And now, in no particular order, I present...

1.  Watch Know Learn

This website is just fabulous! You can search educational videos by topic, subject, student age range, etc. You can even create a class page and send the link to your students so they can access the videos from home. The BEST part is that you can install the WatchKnowLearn bookmarklet (similar to the pinterest Pin It button I know you have in your web browser!) and you can add any video from the internet to WatchKnowLearn.org. This is fantastic because it seems that everything great I find online is blocked by my school district, but WatchKnowLearn.org is not.

2.  Mrs. Perkins

She has wonderful sight word powerpoint presentations for Dolch Sight Words that include narration! You just set your little sweetie in front of the computer and they can practice sight words independently. See the little speaker in the bottom left corner? Kiddos can click that and have the sight word read to them. Just magical!

3.  Mr. Harry Kindergarten

Who doesn't love Mr. Harry? He has great videos covering a variety of topics and my kids just love to dance and sing along! Of course, youtube is blocked at school so I just use my handy WatchKnowLearn bookmarklet to send the video on over to WatchKnowLearn.org so I can access it from school.

4.  We Give Books

Good books and a good cause? Love it! The premise is simple, for every book members read online, We Give Books donates a book to a child who doesn't have one. Reading a book on the website is very similar to reading a book on a kindle or iPad, you can turn the pages and everything!

5. Storyline Online

Listen and watch celebs reading classic children's books. Perfect!

6. Sheppard Software
This lovely site is blocked at my school, so I hope its not blocked at yours. This website has a plethora of kindergarten games including numbers, shapes, colors, and ABCs as well as games for each subject and grade level. Be sure to check it out!

That's all folks! I'm sure there are plenty of amazing websites that I have neglected to mention, so if you know of one please share in a comment below!

Alligator, Alligator!

We just finished teaching greater than, less than, and equal to this past week. We used this chant

We also made cute little alligators with popsicle sticks and googly eyes from One Extra Degree. I'm going to introduce the work station that goes along with it this week.

Math Work Stations and More!

I recently purchased Debbie Diller's awesome book Math Work Stations and cannot put it down! The book has wonderful explanations, pictures, and tips on how to implement work stations effectively in your classroom.  I hope to start using work stations in the next couple of weeks! Do you use math work stations in your classroom? I'd love insight from your experience.

In news unrelated to math work stations, we recently progress monitored our students using DIBELS and I am so proud of the growth my students have made! We practice nonsense words with I Want Candy! Nonsense Word Game. They absolutely LOVE it and are totally catching on.

Hope y'all have a wonderful week! Promise to update soon :)

Joining the blogosphere!

After months of religiously following so many AMAZING blogs out there, I decided to start my own!  I plan to update frequently with the happenings of my classroom as well as share strategies, resources, and tips from one teacher to another. I will also post freebies for use in your classroom....speaking of, I've posted my first freebie to my TPT Store! It's a simple, engaging math center activity for teaching kiddos how to count backward. Be sure to check it out and leave feedback :)
